  • About FjallRaven

Extra strong and stable four-season dome tent optimised for exposed conditions and challenging terrain. A reliable choice that is easy to handle in the cold, perfect for advanced winter trips and for use above the treeline, yet still lightweight enough to be packed in a trekking backpack. Excellent ventilation and doors entirely in mesh make it a great alternative for adventures in the tropics as well. The flysheet and inner tent are connected to make pitching simple. Its three-pole construction makes the tent self supporting and easy to move about until you find the perfect position. The pole sleeves are big enough for double poles (an accessory) so the tent can withstand even higher winds and more snow on the roof. Extra large ground loops and anchor points mean you can use skis or poles to anchor the tent in snow. All pullers and lines are dimensioned so they can be easily handled with thick winter gloves on. Guylines have reflective yarn woven in and extra reflectors at the vents and doors make the tent visible in the darker months of the year. The tent pegs are also extra long and wide for good grip in difficult terrain. Two spacious vestibules and generous ceiling height make tent life comfortable. Entrances from two sides mean you can use the lee-side entrance in stormy weather. A removable mesh shelf in the inner tent's ceiling provides convenient storage for gear. Ventilation is excellent and fully adjustable with large openings at different heights. All openings have fine mesh and can be covered with the flysheet on the outside if the tent is used in snow or sand. In warm weather the doors can be fastened in a half-opened position - the zippers have an auto-lock function so that they won\x92t \x93creep\x94 in strong winds - for extra ventilation without rain getting into the inner tent. Mosquito netting in the flysheet doors means you can be in the vestibule without too many insects visiting, which is just as practical in the summer mountains as it is in tropical climates. The flysheet is made from Fjallraven\x92s new high-performance TripleRip nylon fabric. Its innovative construction combines two fabric weights for optimised strength; 40 denier at the top with 70 denier reinforcements at the bottom where abrasion from the ground is the highest. Just like all of Fjallraven\x92s tents, Keb Dome 2 is made entirely without PVC plastic and toxic flame retardants, and its impregnation is fluorocarbon free.

Making adventure last since 1960

In the 1950’s, 14 year, old Ake Nordin from Ornskoldsvik in Northern Sweden spent more time outdoors than indoors. After many long treks in the mountains, Ake decided the backpacks at the time were unsatisfactory and took matters into his own hands by building a wooden frame. This evenly distributed weight across his back so the pack did not end up uneven, pear, shaped, and uncomfortable. It also meant he could carry more weight with ease. Ake’s innovation quickly caught on and in 1960 Fjallraven became the first to commercially make and distribute framed backpacks.

Fjallraven means Arctic Fox in Swedish, honoring the small and highly adaptable predator that lives in the Swedish mountains under the harshest conditions. From the small town of Ornskoldsvik, Fjallraven has now expanded to every corner in the world. The fundamental ideas remain the same; provide functional, durable, and timeless equipment to make the outdoors more enjoyable for all. We continue to find smart, innovative solutions to make every adventure an unforgettable one.

AN IDEA THAT CARRIED WEIGHT

Ake built his first framed backpack in his basement with his mother’s sewing machine. Using strong cotton fabric for the pack, he attached the wooden frame using leather straps and used calfskin for the support straps. Not only was the pack more comfortable and distributed weight evenly, it also increased ventilation between his back and the pack. Soon after, during a trip up North, Ake’s invention caught the attention of the indigenous Sami people who spent weeks at a time high up in the mountains. They asked Ake to build them a backpack and after that a tent. Fjallraven had found its beginning.

Rule 3: Dependability When we design our products, we choose material and solutions that combined give you a safe, dependable product you will be able to use outdoors. We are aware that our equipment might be used in situations where there is not a lot of room for error, which is why all of our products are tested by experienced test groups before being sent to our retailers.
